State of the Art in Corrosion Protection
|
Developed by Lucent Technologies Bell Labs |
|
Corrosion Intercept® provides a unique and effective protection for copper, silver, brass. bronze, ferrous and non ferrous metals. It has also been successfully used to protect CD’s, photographic prints, film, textiles, paintings, books and other works of art on paper. This inert material does not give off any harmful gases and is unaffected by moisture, humidity or temperature and it has a built in saturation indicator. When the copper colour turns black it is time to change the Intercept. The protection against corrosion is approximately 10 years per 1 mil thickness of Intercept.
STATIC INTERCEPT® combines the unequalled protection of Corrosion Intercept with added protection against ESD — Electrical Static Discharge. Static Intercept can be distinguished from the copper coloured Corrosion Intercept by its darker bronze colour.
Only Intercept products react with and permanently neutralise corrosive gases and in addition act as passive fungicides and bactericides.

| Ozone and reactive Oxygen cause the aluminium layer on CD’s to breakdown. When aluminium in a thin film oxidises it beomes clear and unable to reflect the laser pulse attempting to read the CD. Intercept CD Inserts protect against this failure. These inserts are identical to the common black ones which are harmful to the CD’s. Simply discard your black hubs and replace with copper Intercept Hubs for long term protection. |

ADVANTAGES OF CORROSION INTERCEPT
WHICH METHOD OF PROTECTION?
Molecular Sieves, Activated Charcoal or Corrosion Intercept® Technology?
Gases like all chemicals desire to react and become electrically or chemically neutral. It is this driving force that is not addressed with products that only absorb gases. Neither Molecular Sieves nor Activated Charcoal scavenge the air removing corrosive gases. They merely trap and do not react with the gases
Activated Charcoal and Molecular Sieves eventually become full and have the potential to release the trapped gases in a higher concentration. The most frequently asked question about these kind of traps is:
Q. How can we tell when they are full?
Sophisticated monitoring equipment perhaps or wait until the
objects start tarnishing?
A. Realistically you can’t tell when they are full.
Corrosion Intercept® eliminates this worry
The material is self-indicating. As the copper particles become reacted they darken and eventually the whole plastic becomes blackened as the pure copper particles are used up and
exhausted. It can even be used as an environmental monitor for gauging the continued effectiveness of activated charcoal and other trap type protection products.
