Kempston conservation company gains IIP status
The Kempston based conservation company responsible for helping the restoration of rare books and bibles during the Prague Flood of 2002 has been accredited with investors In People status. Conservation By Design Limited has been providing a quality and professional design and manufacturing service since 1992 working on projects ranging from showcases for Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow to specialist archival storage products for the Vatican. The company also undertakes projects including individually designed and hand made boxes to house precious books, manuscripts, art and textiles. The small but successful company has just been accredited with Investors in People status – adding to its achievement of sound business practice. Stuart Welch, managing director says “ Over the past few years Conservation By Design Limited have been laminating its own archival board and now specialises in hand made boxes for customers for protection and conservation of treasured items such as books, manuscripts, maps and photographs. We are currently working on a major project in Spain using our specialist aluminium storage system for installation in the Alhambra Palace in Granada. Achieving the standard provides us with a platform to continue developing a well motivated and skilled workforce equipped to deal with ever increasing demands on our cultural heritage. When you have good, knowledgeable and loyal staff it is part of the recipe for you ultimately acquire repeat business from satisfied customers. Denise Kelly from Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce – Business Link said It was clear from Stuart and his fellow Directors recognised the benefit of training and developing people to ensure the success of the business and to build a professional and skilled workforce to enable the company to grow Mr Welch rightly feels that Business Link as been key in promoting a strong sense of pride within the company.
