The RP System is a handy packaging system that protects metal artefacts from retrogradation for a long time by conveniently creating an atmosphere without oxygen, moisture content or corrosive gas which are the causes of metal oxidation. The RP System is a really handy tool for archaeological research as it can be used not only for the temporary safe keeping of metal artifacts immediately after they are unearthed, but also for their long term conservation or storage after they receive proper treatment for preservation.

The RP System eliminates the oxygen and moisture necessary for this reaction to occur. Even at low temperatures, a certain amount of moisture invariably adheres to minute irregularities on the surface of metal. In addition, dust and salt particles combine with the moisture adhering to the metal surface to further promote oxidation and corrosion. The RP System goes beyond the limits of conventional desiccants to provide a more complete, effective protection against corrosion.

The RP System™ Type A absorbs 1. Moisture; 2. Oxygen; 3. Various corrosive gases which are reduced to less than 1ppm within hours. including: Hydrogen Sulphide; Sulphur Dioxide; Hydrogen Chloride; Ammonia. The RP System™ Type K performs similarly in that it removes oxygen and corrosive gases but it does not affect the moisture level.
