Elizabeth Soutar Bookbinding Competition
In 1993, the Elizabeth Soutar Bookbinding Competition was initiated by the National Library of Scotland in order to recognise excellence in the field of craft bookbinding. Such is its appeal that it now attracts binders from all over Europe, and recent winners have hailed from
Belgium, Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands, as well as Scotland and England.
Sponsored by Mrs Elizabeth Clark (formerly Soutar) of Elgin, the competition offers two prizes: Best Competition Entrant (£1,200) and Best Student Entrant (£600). Competition entrants should submit a 'craft binding' using materials of their own choice, on a publication in a language and on a subject of their own choice. The winning entries are placed in the National Library of Scotland's collection of fine bindings.
The closing date for the 2007 competition is 28 September. |
