Timecare Channel Panels
Channel Panels are a new idea from CXD that we think will have many uses for the Museum Archive and Conservator. They are formed from 20mm thick Plastazote foam that has channels 3mm wide x 5mm deep running across the width of the sheet, with each channel spaced 5mm apart. Channel Panels can be used for dividing drawers, lining boxes, making deep box frames and potentially many more applications. Channel Panels are ideal for the storage of large glass plate negatives offering a safe modern alternative to old wooden storage boxes. The soft foam protects the delicate edges of the glass and the 5mm spacing allows easy access to individual plates.
Special thicknesses, sizes and colours of Channel Panels can always be quoted for on request. The standard stock colour is Grey but other colours can be produced to order subject to a slight premium on orders for single sheets of a special colour.
Light Weight Boxes can be made from Channel Panels by inserting 3mm Conservation Board or other suitable material into the channels and bonding using selective adhesives. Plastazote can be cut with nothing more complicated than a sharp knife and offers an easy way of solving many complicated storage problems
Channel Panels can also be used for making box frames for the display of items such as charters with attached seals. Strips can be cut to the requisite depth and a backing of Conservation Board inserted to mount the object on. Perspex can then be fitted into the front channel to act as glazing. The whole thing could then be set within a conventional wooden frame if required for display. When not on display the object can be safely stored away.
Plastazote is a Cross-Linked closed Cell Polyethylene foam which has been used for many years as a conservation storage material and has proved to be stable and non-reactive when in contact with a variety of Museum objects
