Conservation By Design is a company dedicated to the design and supply of high quality conservation storage and display products all grouped together under the banner of the Timecare collection.

Conservation by design offers a comprehensive range of storage products including acid free boxes, safe transparent polyester album pages, acid free papers and museum boards. The company is experienced in designing paper based products either hand made or machine made and including European, Japanese and Indian papers. We can advise and specify papers, boards, boxes and commission special makings to fit a customer's requirements.
In addition to boxes and paper based products we supply an increasing range of equipment including polyester welders, vacuum tables, steam generators, leafcasters and most recently we have designed the Conservation Bookmate^TM which is a light-weight folding book cradle for use by readers of rare books. This product was short-listed for the 1996 Innovation Section of the Conservation Awards.

Conservation By Design supply a wide range of storage workshop and display furniture. We manufacture the Planorama® aluminium storage system, which most are the most versatile range of storage drawers available.

Planorama Drawers can be as shallow as 10mm because of the special patented design and have been supplied in sizes up tp 4x5 metres for storing ship flags.

They are now able to offer a choice of drawer front designs and we can customise the drawer by size, colour and finish to fit almost any requrment. Planorama cabinents with 2.576 shallow 20mm deep drawers have recently been installed in the new National Library of Wales extention. Planorama was specified for the storage of the librarys most valuable map storage collection.

We also supply high quality steel furniture from Lista, Kind and Croon.

Croon specialise in conservation workshop furnture including benches, lightboxes and sinks, Recent installations include The National Galleries of Scotland, The Brotherton Library, The John Rylands Library Conservation Workshop. Croon have many standard designs but are happy to custom build to a customers requirements.

Recently added to the Timecare Collection is the Rothstein range of glass showcases and picture storage racking. Rothsein storage furniture and showcases are designed with conservation in mind and can be ordered as standard or as special sizes and designs to suit a particular exhibit or style of gallery. Rothstein cases are distinguished by their special hinged door design which allows better access for display and cleaning than the pull and slide type of showcases.
